The city of Najaf is the location of Imam Ali Bin Abi Talib’s (PBUH) Shrine since the year 133 of the Islamic calendar. For this reason, this city has become the main destination of many Muslims and in particular Shiah Muslims. The idea for this project came about from the need to tackle the accumulated neglect over the years of this historic city (in comparison to other locations of a similar nature) as well as its lack of the most basic facilities for residents as well as tourists.
The significance of this idea is that it is based on an important leap of imagination in construction terms as it is located at the main entrance of the city. It will also provide for the occupational need of such a utilization of structure in a modern manner unprecedented in Iraq. The project has a positive impact in terms of providing an alternative location for the current worn-out commercial quarters that are bound to disappear due to re-planning and the passage of time.
